James Delaney

James “Jim” A. Delaney, 98, of Valley View Haven, Belleville; formerly of Centre Hall, died Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Valley View haven. He was born July 31, 1917, in Potter Township as son of the late Michael and Clara Yearick Delaney. On November 28, 1940, he married Mary Frances Ralston who preceded him in death October 4, 2014. Jim graduated from Centre Hall Potter High School in 1934. In addition of farming in Potter Township most of his life; he owned a whitewash company earlier in life. After he retired and moved from the farm, he maintained vegetable gardens, giving much of the produce away. Mr. Delaney was a life member Trinity United Church of Christ, Centre Hall. He was a past member of the Centre Hall Senior Citizens, the Nittany Antique Machinery Association, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge 1084 Bellefonte, the Cast Iron Seats Collectors Association of Woodstock IL, and the Centre Hall Farmers and Businessmen’s Association. Jim was an active volunteer with the Centre Hall Potter Township Food and Fuel Bank. He enjoyed antique machinery and farm equipment. John Deere tractors were his favorite. He also had a deep interest in steam locomotives and railroading in general. Surviving Mr. Delaney, are two daughters, Roseann Rossman (Jack) of Waterport, NY, and Ellen L. Delaney of Belleville; one son, Samuel Delaney (Helen) of Belleville; three grandchildren, Darbie Evans (James) of Spring Mills, Jack Rossman (Lynne) of Vail, CO, Chris Rossman (Cherine) of Carlsbad, CA; and six great grandchildren, Noah and Joshua Evans of Spring Mills, Megan Rossman of Vail, CO, and Sydney, Julia and Shelby Rossman of Carlsbad, CA. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Delaney was preceded in death by a daughter Lois Jean Delaney in 1953. Following his wishes a memorial service will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery, State College.
