Obituary for Lorenna Martin

Lorenna Viola (Barnes) Martin Age 95, of West View, went to meet her Maker on September 6, 2015. Lorenna was born on January 28, 1920 in Federal, PA., the daughter of Ernest Barnes and Anna Yardley Barnes. Her childhood was spent in Perryopolis, PA, Fayette County, graduating from Perry High School in 1939. In 1948 she and her family moved to West View where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a Head of Sales at Gimbel’s Department Store in the North Hills for 25 years. As a longtime member of the North Hills United Presbyterian she served as a Sunday School teacher and Deaconess. In her younger years she also served as PTA President at Highland Elementary School. Lorenna was known in her neighborhood and extended community for her friendly, outgoing nature, and as an articulate and eloquent speaker, possessing a beautiful command of the English language. She took great pride in her English heritage. She was also very athletic and possessed a deep love for children, taking great pride in her grandchildren and often reciting to them the poems she had committed to memory. She loved hosting family gatherings and was an exceptional cook and baker of pies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chads C Martin, her son, John Eric (Jack) Martin (Pamela), her parents, six of her 7 siblings, Ernest, Evelyn, Mildred, James, Lucille Holler, and Ethel Blacka. She will be deeply missed by her son, Chads Martin (Kate) of Erie, PA., her daughter, Nancy Martin of West View, her grandchildren, Michael Martin (Becky), Lee Koch (Matthew), Jeremy Ann Anderson (Stephen), Fawn Mullinary, Chads Mullinary (Margaret), Forest Mullinary (Amy Hirt), and John Martin (Lee Ann) and great grandchildren, Laurel, Faith, Felicia, Chads, and Luke and by her brother, Harry Barnes (Helen). There will be a private funeral service. Arrangements by Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., West View.
